Walking in the Rain

Do I enjoy walking in the rain?  No, not so much.  But since it apparently is never going to stop raining, it must be done.

Sunday, I tried several times to go for a walk.  Every time I got ready to go I would get to the door and the rain would start coming down.  It was so frustrating. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and with my husband's encouragement I got my buns out there to walk anyway.  He even offered to go with me.  We rarely get to walk together now that he is a runner, so I immediately took him up on the offer.  We had a good time despite the rain.

Part of the reason that I was determined to get this walk in was that I had planned a new route.  Normally, I walk to the neighborhood loop about 1/2 mile away and then walk around it a couple times.  I wanted to get in a longer walk so I figured out a new route to keep it interesting.  There are three loops in the general neighborhood that vary in size.  We walked to the farthest one first and worked our way back - .7 miles, 1.1 miles, and .6 miles.  The loops plus the distance walking to them ended up equally 4.3 miles.  Not bad.

Millie was super excited to go with us.  I guess rain isn't the same deterrent for dogs.

I was off work today for Columbus Day.  The rain finally let up around 4 pm, so I headed out for my usual 3 mile walk.  Some days you just do the best you can.  Hood up and ready to roll...

I love this hoodie.  It is the first present I ever bought my husband.  Just a few weeks after we started dating I went to California to visit my brother for Christmas. For the record I hated leaving my then new boyfriend.  I was in a quandry about what to get him for Christmas since we had only been dating a few weeks.  I was so glad to find this hoodie at the zoo. He has told me many times that he is a polar bear and likes it cold (usually he tells me this when I am trying to turn the a/c down because I am freezing.).  Now that we are married I wear the hoodie way more than he does :)

The actually rain wasn't too bad, but it was a soggy walk for sure.

Love all the leaves that are starting to fall.

Some trees have dropped almost all their leaves.  I didn't worry about the pace at all and it showed in my time. My time was comparatively slow (about 17 minute miles - instead of 15).  Between the rain and the leaves it made for more slippery footing than I am really comfortable with.  I know I don't need to kill every walk to make it worthwhile.
Isn't this the cutest little camper ever?  I would love to see the inside space. This would be perfect for my in-laws.  They like to drive cross country and often camp along the way.

Ooops!  I think someone broke their bathtub.  This is actually my sister's house.  They just started a complete bathroom remodel.  I feel for them.  We did ours a couple of years ago.  What a project!  Incidentally their tub was cast iron.  Apparently you can get quite a workout breaking it and carrying it out...super heavy!

I finally made these refrigerator oatmeal jars.  They are made with oatmeal, Greek yogurt, milk and then fruit and flavorings.  I made peach, PB banana and blueberry.  I am going to try one this morning, but I am not overly optimistic when I tasted a little last night before bed it seemed overpowered by the yogurt and the oatmeal tasted very raw. We will see if they mellowed out overnight.   ** Update...FAIL.  I won't be making these again. The taste was too yogurt and raw oatmeal. And I could not get past the texture. Just because Pinterest says it is "amazing" doesn't mean it is :)

Have a great day everyone :)

Winner will be drawn on Friday.

    1. Yeah, I was disappointed - it looks so good. I thought about you when I was walking. Do you know the song "The Rain" by Oran "Juice" Jones? I thought about titling my post "I saw you (and him) walking in the rain." So clever how you title your posts with lyrics.

  2. I haven't been able to bring myself to try the overnight oats. Seems like it would turn out just like you described.

Way to get that walk in though! I am so tired of this rain. It needs to go!

  4. Bummer about all the rain and the oatmeal! I love oatmeal but not sure I would like that texture either. But good job getting those walks in anyway!

    1. I was a little suspicious about cold oatmeal...part of the draw of oatmeal is the warm belly feeling. There were also some smoothie recipes by the same person...I think I will pass on them.
