Shortest Month of the Year

Another month begins and I have a plan. Inspired by Meg at Running Just as Fast as She Can, I am taking a drastic step. My sweet tooth has been on an uncontrolled rampage since Christmas. Until recently, I would have told you that salty was my kryptonite, but recently I can't get enough of the sweet goodies - candy, cookies, ice cream. Then I noticed that I get "sweeted out" and I turn to something salty to create balance.  But...you guessed it that leads me right back to the sweet.

I am ready to break the cycle. I have decided for the month of February - NO SWEETS! I am not studying labels and eradicating every gram of sugar. There may come a day for that, but it isn't today. I am just going with the obvious sweets. The month of February has been strategically chosen for being the shortest month...28 days. Okay, 27 if you don't count Super Bowl Sunday, which I did not count. Although I gave myself a Super Bowl pass there will be no Valentine's Day pass. Love will have to be expressed without chocolate hearts...perhaps a I nice fruit basket.

February has three simple rules:
1.  No sweets.
2.  Daily exercise
3.  Water

I may also revisit My Fitness Pal, but I am not forcing that. My husband is starting back on My Fitness Pal, so I am pretty sure that will carry over to me to a degree. We are excited to be heading in the right direction again.

Saturday, I spent 7 hours at a my nephew's wrestling tournament. I love to watch him wrestle, but that is a long time to spend on the bleachers. He was actually only wrestling about 10 minutes of those 7 hours. I decided before I left my house that I would take a walking break during the day. To make sure I did, I told my accountability group that I was going to walk. I did not want to come back and report otherwise.

The school has a nice track next to the gym. During the lunch break, my sister and I popped outside and took a few laps. My goal was to do 8 laps. We started in lane 1 and each lap moved over a lane - just a little trick to keep me engaged.

I was super curious about this random canoe inside the track next to the football field.

We made it through 6 laps. Not bad considering we could have sat on our buns and did nothing. There was a light sprinkle that was a bit uncomfortable in the cold. I was proud of what we did.

Back inside, we watched the championship rounds. My nephew is wrestling for 3rd place on the mat to the left (in red).  To the right is the 1st place match ending with a pin. The 1st place winner is the exact reason you don't judge a book by its cover. He looks like a big ol' fluffy teddy bear, but he is all business on the mats. He is currently ranked 3rd in the state. Take heart. You may not look like the other athletes, but you can be a champion.

Super proud of our 3rd place winner. It was an especially sweet win since this particular opponent beat him in each of their last three meetings. My nephew place 5th in this tournament last year. He is only a sophomore. Next year - 1st place?

My sister, niece and I had lunch together on Friday. Our pizza was half Dr Dre (olive oil, mozzrella, green pepper, red onion, chicken, bacon, jalapeno - topped with diced tomato and Ranch after it is baked) and half Green Lantern  (red sauce, minced garlic, mushroom, fresh mozzarella, artichokes and pesto.) Both sides were good and it was fun to have a pizza that neither of our husbands would ever willingly eat - seriously there would have to be starvation involved to get them to even consider it. The crazy face and weird camera perspective made me laugh.

And just because she is cute I am ending with a goofy puppy picture. This is her version of playing tennis.

I feel like I am in a good space at moment so I have every intention of making February my comeback month. Stay tuned....

    1. The Dr. Dre was our favorite. And it had to be healthy with fresh tomatoes on top, right?
