My Middle Name is Louise

Today is Middle Name Pride Day!  Who knew such a day existed. Unfortunately, I can't find much on the origin. But why not celebrate anyway? Growing up I was not the least bit fond of my middle name. I think there was something about the "weeze" sound in Louise that was unattractive to me. I can't particularly say I love it now, but it has grown on me.

On of my favorite seasons is around the corner...or maybe it is already here...grilling season! This week the temperatures are in the 50s and 60s.

I wanted to make a basil garlic marinade, but the grocery store was out of fresh basil. I settled for some dill instead. I put together a lemon, garlic, dill marinade. I just make it up as I go along and hope for deliciousness.

I cut the chicken in chunks, then put the chunks in a gallon freezer bag with the marinade. It is the perfect technique for getting the marinade distributed through all the chicken. Just smoosh the chicken around inside the bag. Into the fridge to do its thing...every now and then I flip the bag over.

The cubes are then threaded on sticks for grilling.

Dinner last tonight was served with green beans, which I grilled directly on the grill...they were perfectly cooked with just a bit of char. We also grilled mini sweet peppers...always a favorite. How did I make it through winter???

I happened across this recipe on Pinterest yesterday - Banana Carrot Dog Treats. They caught my eye because I had a couple of overripe bananas. I was doing my best to not give into baking a banana cake. Since I happened to have all the ingredients on hand, except the coconut oil, I whipped up a quick batch of puppy treats instead.

 Not the most appetizing look at this point, although it is colorful.

I cut them out in cute little hearts. I realized once they were in the oven that I forgot to put in the oil.I had planned to substitute olive oil for the coconut oil. So much for their shiny coats. At least the pups will have sharp eyes (carrots) and fresh breath (parsley).

They smelled delicious while they were baking. Not quite like banana cake, but I could definitely smell the banana.

I believe this recipe has earned the puppy seal of approval. You can't see it in the picture, but poor Millie was even drooling. The treats were actually a bit more bland than I expected from the smell. Yes, I tried them...and my husband was horrified. There wasn't anything in them that I wouldn't normally eat so what's weird about that, right?

I did enjoy getting to bake this afternoon and tonight I can relax without a banana cake screaming for my attention.

March 11 is Ear Muff Day.  Please let me know if you celebrate. I will not be celebrating as we are expected to hit a high of 65 degrees tomorrow and THAT is what I want to celebrate!!
