Catching Up

I apologize in advance for the randomness of this post. I have gotten a  bit behind on things and want to catch up before moving on.

The past week has been more or less swallowed up by the Great Purge of 2015. I have tried to go through almost everything we own and pare down some of the unnecessary stuff. Because I want to recoup a little of that "wasted" money I planned a yard sale. Unfortunately, I planned it for a yucky day. Originally, I wanted to try one of those Friday evening sales. It seems those are pretty popular as people drive home work. There was a threat of rain and Saturday was supposed to be better. So I passed on Friday.

Turns out Saturday was much worse than Friday evening. I had to cover up a couple times Saturday morning. It was so frustrating. Thankfully, we were somewhat prepared with the tarps. Between showers,  I was frantically drying items and repricing items whose prices washed away in the rain. Thankfully some customers showed up between showers.

I didn't do as well as I hoped on Saturday so I decided to put the stuff out again on Sunday because I was going to be home. That turned out to be a bit of a waste of time. I couldn't do much else while watching the sale because of the way our house/drive is set up. I probably only had 6-8 customers Sunday morning and only a couple of buyers. I think my four hours of work on Sunday netted a whopping $8.  I am telling myself this is the LAST yard sale....

Because we were in a rush to close up I didn't take the leftovers to donate yet. I need to do that this weekend and then it is time to start "emptying" rooms for Floormegeddon. We are replacing all of our carpet with wood laminate floors. It comes out to about 750 square feet - yikes! It will be a puzzle moving and stashing stuff as we go from room to room. Hopefully, it will keep me too busy for snacking and go smoothly so I don't fall into a pit of stress eating.

The first of the month is heart worm medicine time for Millie. She gets a monthly dose that comes nicely packaged as a yummy little treat. Ha! Evidently, Millie hates the treats. Yesterday morning she put me through quite the ordeal getting June's dose down her stubborn little beak.

1) I gave her the whole treat. She took it to her crate and proceeded to spit it out and than sat in front of it so I couldn't reach it. I got her out of the crate and retrieved the slimy treat.

2) I thought maybe if it cut it into four small pieces I could toss them to her. Maybe she would catch them and swallow before she realized what it is (like she does every other treat). By the way, one should take care while cutting up slimy treats - they aren't very cooperative. Piece number one was a complete fail - Millie missed the catch and the treat dropped to the floor. Of course, Zommie was waiting and she quickly snatched and ate it before I could stop her. Well, at least she is covered for heart worms in June.

3) Millie loves peanut butter, so I thought.maybe a smear of peanut butter on the treat would disguise it and she would happily gobble them up. Nope, she took the treat got all the peanut butter off and spit out the now even slimier treat.

4) Finally, I was left with no choice but to pry my Rottweilers jaws open and stuff the remaining three gross l slimy peanut buttery treats down her throat.

I am pretty sure come July, I am going straight to step 4 - minus the slime and peanut butter. I will just open up her mouth and stuff it down her throat. No pretending it is a treat!

The garden is coming along . I picked the first peas this week. Just one pod was ready, but it was delicious. I am hoping to get enough at one time for at least a serving :)

The broccoli is taking over the world. There is some rainbow Swiss chard in front of it that I can't even see anymore. If the broccoli produces well...and soon, I will forgive it for killing the chard :) Last year was the first year I grew broccoli and I love it. So this year, I planted a couple more plants than last year.

One of my favorite meals this week made me happy on a couple of different levels. First, it was delicious. Second, it made me realize how great it is to have healthy foods on hand. I was packing my lunch with no particular plan. I had two corn tortillas left, some leftover buffalo chicken, some bell peppers already sliced so I decided "tacos" would be good. I added lettuce and radish from the garden. I also had some cantaloupe cut up and ready to eat in the fridge. So it took me about 30 seconds to pull together this yummy lunch because everything was ready to go. This definitely reinforces to me the power of prep!
I am very happy to report a 1.8 pound loss this week. I walked most mornings and did a better job tracking. I wasn't perfect, but I was more on than off track. It is encouraging to see results. I am hoping to string together a couple losses in a row and get this weight loss going again.

I went to link up the Weigh In Wednesday this morning and I see it has closed down :( It makes me a little sad when things end. I am sure some of you reading now found my blog through that link up. I know I found several of my favorite blogs through that link up. I hope we will continue to stay in touch as we move forward with our journeys :)

  1. That lunch still looks amazing. Our pittie and lab both like the HW pills fortunately. Other pills are another matter. Koda takes them like a champ, but Orion is such a little butthead!

    1. Sorry you missed the debacle - you would have loved the ridiculousness of all :) Little does Millie know she is fighting a losing battle!

  2. Oh gosh so far Ollie has eating his HW pills with no problem. We also have an oral flea med that he takes too. I hope we don't have any issues with him in the future with taking those medicines! Sorry the garage sale was a washout! I hope you did manage to make a little money though!

    1. I raked in about 98 dollars I didn't have before and got rid of some stuff, so I guess it was a win after all :)

  3. My Corgi used to hate the "treats" too, but now chomps them right down! Don't know if her taste has changed or she got the point that it was going down one way or the other, but Yay! Deb

  4. Congrats on your loss!

My childhood dog would do the same thing with "treats". I'd be hiding them in cheese, meat, peanut butter...and back out they'd come.

    1. I guess I could smash them up in her food...she'll eat when she's hungry :)

  5. Oh how I suffer garden envy! Enjoy all the fruits (and veggies) of your labor!

And the tale of the heartworm chew made me laugh. Some dogs. My mom had to hid her dog's pills in liver sausage. that might be strong enough to hide the pill flavor. I thankfully have a dog who loves them whew.

    1. Millie and I are definitely going to have to come some sort of arrangement :) The only thing that would make the garden better would be if my tomatoes were ready!

  7. I laughed reading about your heartworm pill debacle. Molly is on Trifexus which I think theoretically is supposed to taste "good". This jerk greyhound who will eat flowers, random bits of barkdust and God knows what else refuses to eat the big tablet. Literally this dog ate some lavender I had in a vase on the kitchen table, but will not eat this pill. Go figure. So like you, I have to cut it into 1/4ths and stick it into Pill Pockets, pieces of bread or other things she likes. I feel your pain!

  8. Ohhhh purging. I need to do that!
And yes, the garden. I'm jealous. Black thumb here!
Congrats on the loss, and glad you figured out that WIW has not actually ended! :)

    1. As we rearrange things in the house I am sure there will be even more to go. The secret to my success really has been those raised beds - I highly recommend them.
