I Don't Want to Know

First thing this morning I asked my husband to hide the scale...I just don't want to know. I already know I was NOT the poster child for weight loss this weekend. Starting with game night snacks on Friday. I didn't go crazy, but I indulged. I did great during the day Saturday and then we decided to go out to dinner...not terrible, but again not great. Finally, Super Bowl Sunday. Again I did well during the day, but during the game...yikes!

Our food to guest ratio was a bit off. I might have prepared for 300 people when we really only had 7. My husband and I had decided beforehand that we were having an serious indulgence. We wanted the typical Super Bowl foods. We ordered pizza. I made wings, guacamole, chip dip, cookies and brownies. I am not sharing pictures of everything cause this is not that kind of blog ;)  That and I was too busy stuffing my face to take pictures.

I did remember to take a few pictures of the making of our signature wings though. They are pretty simple. I start with Kraft Spicy Honey BBQ sauce and just two ingredients to make it our own.
I grate in a jalapeno pepper to make it extra spicy. Then I chop a handful of cilantro because we have a bit of a love affair with cilantro :)  Funny how cilantro is one of those love it or hate herbs - it used to be on my despise list and now I adore it.
I confess I made many more wings than this...I just forgot to take a picture until after we ate some. I had also made some of them plain BBQ and some Louisiana Hot Sauce (not sure is authentic - that is just the brand we like).
Before the game there was some tossing around of the football in the parking lot behind our house. My husband's friend ordered a penalty flag online, so I had my fun playing referee and sports photographer. I believe this particular penalty was for delay of game.

They had a good time. I would like to think that there were a few pre-feast calories burned, but probably not enough though :)  The food was all delicious and I know I will be paying the price this week. Scale is hidden until Friday weigh-in. I was concerned that if I saw some inflated number on the scale I would get too discouraged and throw away the whole week. Or if the number was better than I expected, I would have a false sense of security and there might be some sloppy eating this week. As it is, I don't know a number - there will be lots of water and the eating is back on track.

Apparently, there is nothing like a Super Bowl party to motivate me to finally get the Christmas trees taken down. I worked on it Saturday night and Sunday morning. The trees and most of the ornaments are back in storage. I have about a box to finish packing up after I make a final decision on some ornaments that will be leaving the collection.
These are among the "safe" ornaments.
Saturday was an exciting day in my nephew's high school wrestling career. He won his first regional championship :) My guess it is that it is difficult to get up with a 220 wrestler on your back. My nephew is the one on top.
Before the championship round they line up all the wrestlers by weight classes. As they are introduced, they go out to the middle of the mat to greet their opponent.
Checking in for the championship match with game faces on.
My nephew pinned his guy in the second round to secure his first regional championship. Since my nephew wrestles the second to highest weight class, the stands are often pretty empty by the time they finish :(
Congratulations!!  We are proud of that guy and wish him well this weekend at sectionals!

Zommie (our dachshund) has been sleeping with us lately, but is always ready to get out of bed when we get up. This morning I couldn't find her. I looked all around the house. I started to panic that somehow she had managed to get left outside last night...not sure how that would have been possible and I remember her being in bed during the night. The mind goes to some crazy places. My husband finally found her rolled up like a sleepy burrito in one of the blankets. He literally had to unroll her from the blanket. She is finally embracing her inner burrower. I definitely felt her pain this morning I would have loved to stayed burrowed in bed. One of these years I will have to remember the Monday after Super Bowl is a good day to take off :)

It was a good weekend and we were thrilled to end it on a high note with a Broncos win. My husband is a huge Peyton Manning fan and we both hope he decides to retire on this high note :)

  1. Love the jersey, I too was rocking my Manning jersey yesterday.

I can understand getting the scale out of the way after an indulgent weekend. Good call since you know whatever the scale says today is not indicative of how you have been eating leading up to and after this weekend. You will have a grea tloss on Friday!

  2. Yay for your nephew! Glad y'all had a nice Super Bowl Party as well. Good idea about hiding the scale until Friday.
Ollie is a burrower too. In fact once he goes in, he doesn't pop back out until the alarm goes off and that's usually when he decides to give the best snuggles

  3. Definitely a good call to hide the scale--it can come back out when you tell it to! ;) Our cat, Elliot, also burrows into the blankets. I've sat on him so many times because I didn't know he was under the blanket!

    1. I had to know and got it back this morning. I didn't do very well yesterday in denial. It was about what I expected.

  5. There are definitely times where it is okay to hide the scale. You know that number isn't real and nothing good can come of seeing it.

    1. I knew it would be inflated (some false and some truth) and it did help not to see it that first day. But I did get the scale back on Tuesday - I needed the truth.

  6. Good for you for recognizing that the scales would be a detriment to your efforts this week! You rock!

  7. I have a chihuahua who also loves to wrap herself in blankets and we go crazy looking for her. It's very cute.

    1. Yay! I used to despise cilantro, but not love it! Maybe it is because she is getting older - she has always liked a nest, but didn't burrow under covers.
