The Final Stretch

It was a busy holiday weekend. My husband was determined to finish the floor.  The hallway was very tricky because there were so many doors to go through. Some of the planks had to be glued as there was no way to click them in place. I sure would have hated to have to glue the whole thing.

And of course, I had to feed them. My MIL sent over some cooked pork roast to make BBQ pork sandwich. But I decided to use it to make a pork and black bean enchilada instead. The pork was very lean and I added veggies and the black beans. Overall pretty healthy...until the sour cream :)

A last look at the funky old carpet in the final room.
Our trash man has been great about taking a few carpet rolls every week. I think we have one more week's worth left for him :)  Clearly, this room was the least used. The carpet, padding and parquet were by far in the best shape of all the rooms. Still funky, but better than the rest.
For the longest time I had fretted about a couple of spots in the floor. I could feel "issues" under the carpet and worried that we wouldn't be able to do the laminate flooring. One spot turned out to just be a loose parquet square in the hallway. The most worrisome spot was in the spare room. If you walked on the carpet you could feel a definite lump. I thought maybe the concrete was messed up and we wouldn't be able to level it for the flooring. Turned out to be this pile of sand. Sometimes worries are unfounded :)
Like the other bedroom, we carried things out the windows to minimize the mess on new flooring.  My husband passed stacks of parquet out the window to me. Unfortunately, there was a hornet situation - they seemed to be building a next in the siding next to that window. And I got stung :(  Thankfully, it was only once and I don't seem to react too badly to stings - it is still read 5 days later, but doesn't hurt.
This is the back of the trim we took out of the room. It makes me very curious - I find it difficult to believe the room was each these colors at some point in time. And the current green we had painted isn't on it.
After we cleaned out the room, we had to run some errands and pick up a few things to finish - laminate flooring from the farm and a mop bucket from work. You can't tell from the picture but I am in the back seat under the flooring and mob bucket. The things we do...
The last of the concrete floor being cleaned and prepped for vapor barrier and underlayment.
My husband was so dirty he refused to walk on the new floors in the rest of the house. Instead, he climbed in and out of the window. Thankfully, no one called the police on him and at least I know we can get out easily, in case of fire.
 The final underlayment.
Enjoying a dinner break with our niece. There was no where to eat in the dining room...so made this into our temporary dining room.
I am super excited they were able to do the whole floor with only two transitions. One to the bathroom tile and one to the kitchen linoleum (which we will replace with tile at some point).
At last, the final room's floor was installed. It was nice to just sit and watch my husband work. I don't think I have ever been so tired.
I was called on again for my excellent standing skills.
The moment we have all been waiting for.....

We have come a long way in just over a month. We still have to install the baseboards, but we are taking a little breather. I still have a good sized pile of stuff in the living room. I am sorting through everything and doing my best to keep only what I love/need.

Room reveals tomorrow....

  1. Ah! I am so excited that you are done! I say get the baseboard done quickly. We "took a breather" and it took like 5 months for us to finally finish all the baseboards lol

And boo to getting stung by a hornet!

    1. I am hoping we can do the baseboard next week. My FIL goes on vacation the 20th so if we don't do it before then it will be a couple more weeks :(

I'm afraid to let you in on this little secret. The baseboards are STILL not done in my house. It's been what, 8 months since our bedroom remodel?! yikes...

    1. Yeah my sister went without baseboards for well over a year. When the floor is finished you just want to run and hide from all other projects :)

  3. Yay!!! So close! And I'm glad there weren't big issues with the floor. (Though...a pile of sand? Really? Such sloppy work!)

    And your dinner looks divine!

    1. I was shocked that it was just sand that caused me so much worry.
