When I started this blog in 2014 I had big plans to lose the weight that corresponded to the weight of my new puppy...as she grew so would my loss. Turns out it didn't work quite like that. Four plus years later I weigh more than ever and my puppy is potentially facing surgery for an ACL injury. Here I am trying again, expanding the focus of the blog and keeping the name. Hope you will continue on the adventure with me.

Millie's First Race
Today was the Trails for Tails 5K. We chose this race because it benefitted a humane society and you could run with your dog. We were very excited to actually be able to take Millie in a race.
I had planned to walk this race too, but with the heat/humidity I haven't been walking in a couple of weeks. I decided to just go as my husband and Millie's support. I am secretly (or not so secretly) glad it worked out that way. It was so much fun to watch, cheer and take pictures.
They had an incredible race. My husband was 10th place overall (out of 260). He even got a medal for placing 2nd in his age group. His time was 23:07. I still can't believe it! To think that just a few months ago he weighed about 75 pounds more and was happy to be able to run a slow mile. He has worked super hard and is enjoying the results of that hard work. I am so proud of him. On a related note, he has officially reached his goal weight and is now working out his maintenance plan.
Millie did great. She didn't act like a complete maniac. And she won 2nd place overall for the dogs. She even got a medal of her own. I think my husband is going to have to build a trophy case for their hardware :) Canine winners - 1st place Chance (middle) / 2nd place Millie (right) / 3rd place Bentley (left).
Sunday we ordered pizza and enjoyed the first Sunday of NFL football. It was a crazy day in the NFL. For me personally, I am thrilled that the Patriots are in last place in their division!!! We have done some rearranging to in the living room to accommodate our new-to-us furniture. The new couches have built in recliners. There was some serious lounging going on at our house today :) It seems like we have been so busy lately it was nice to just have a chill out day. Incidentally, I am proud (and somewhat surprised) to say we have had the furniture for 5 days and not a single Millie bite out of it.
My husband's man cave is coming along nicely. This is where I found him Saturday morning.
Just kidding my niece and I did a little decorating Friday night while he was working. I wanted to surprise him Saturday morning when we went out to work on putting away things in the new shed. He played along for the picture, but I am sure he thinks we are a bit ridiculous. He took the posters down and is now trying to decide where he is going to re-hang the Star Wars poster.
It was a wonderful weekend. Now back to work we go.

What a cool race! How can they have them all there and not end up with a doggy traffic jam, I wonder? And WOW on your husband's pace! Seriously fantastic! :)
ReplyDeleteI know, I expected it to be complete chaos. For the most part the dogs just started running after the dog ahead of them. My husband is definitely thrilled with his progress :)
DeleteAww great weekend and way to go to your hubby and Millie on their race! I love the Star Wars and Spidey posters in your hubby's "man cave" hehe
ReplyDeleteI wanted to leave the posters in the shed but he nixed it (I might put them back up when he isn't looking) . And it turns out he isn't much of a Spidey fan :( Thanks, it was one of my favorite weekends in awhile - fall is coming :)
DeleteThat's an awesome race! And holy crap your husband kicked butt! That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe man cave pic made me laugh!
I know - I was afraid to look around at the booths near the finish line. He has gotten so speedy I was afraid if I took my eyes off the finish line I would miss him. I was thankful Millie behaved - sometimes she is a bit of an anchor :)
Deleteawesome post !! its funny in that first photo .. I spotted your husband right away.... its a testament to how many photos you've posted of him..... tell him congrats on the race and the goal weight .. woo hoo !! glad you took the race off... listening to your body is the first and foremost thing you need to do .. whether its hunger, or not being able to run / walk in the humidity / heat... listening to your body is the one thing you should always do ... you guys AND millie are rockin it !!!!
ReplyDeleteI know, it seems like I am obsessed with photographing my husband. I did feel a bit bad about not cropping out half-naked guy, but then I figured if he runs in public like that he has to accept he might get blogged. I am ready for some cool fall weather and getting back to walking. I still dream someday that I will run...
DeleteSounds like a great weekend. And that is one speedy hubby and one speedy pup!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a good one. They ran well together :)
