One Thing I Know for Sure

Monday was a particularly crazy day at work and all I could think about was feeding my face.  Maybe the only thing that saved me from doing that was knowing that I had my weekly weigh-in on Tuesday morning.

I am not sure how I made it through today though.  After I weighed in this morning all I think about was chips...yummy Lay's Sour Cream & Onion potato chips.  I am pretty sure with the crazy work week I am having that I could eat my weight in them.  I am now mentally calculating how much space my weight in chips would take up....a good size room I would imagine.

I made a deal with myself on the way to work this morning. I had to stop at Walgreen's to pick up some pictures I had ordered.  My deal was that if they had Lay's Sour Cream & Onion in the small bag (the beautiful green bag) I would get them.  If they didn't, I wouldn't get any chips of any sort.  Well, it was a good day for "dieting" at Walgreen's - not a small bag of Sour Cream & Onion to be found and believe me I looked!  Then when I got to work, I received word of an impossible deadline.  Ooohh I wanted those chips!

So bottom line...one thing I know for sure is that I am a stress eater.  And apparently the solution is to not have junk food lurking around.

Back to the weigh-in. Last week I had gained 2 pounds. This morning I was down 4 pounds.  That made me very happy.  Not only did I lose the 2 I had gained, but an additional 2 for this week.  Puts me right back on track.  Even more exciting is that I hit a new new milestone. Part of me would love to announce to the world what that milestone is, but the part of me that doesn't want my blog reading husband to know how much I weigh won't let me :)  Please no guesses in the comments, but I know there are some ladies out there that know what I am talking about!  I will confess that I have lost a total of 30.8 pounds.

In other exciting news, I have more clothing options for my bottom half than I think I have EVER had before. There is not a single pair of jeans in my closet that I cannot wear.  Or a single pair of shorts/capris in my drawer that I cannot wear.  I believe there is one lone pair of pants that I can't fit into. Obviously, I am not cured of buying too small clothes because I bought these that particular pair of pants on clearance this summer - $5 if I remember correctly.

Although it is great that I can now wear everything (except the new pants) there is a serious lesson to be learned.  I found a pair of pants in the closet this morning that still had the tags on them.  I tried them on and they fit, but that doesn't mean they look good on me. They are plenty big, but not at all flattering. They are a bit tight in the waist and super baggy in the crotch (ugh...I hate that word). As I cut the tag off them I was glad to see I bought them on clearance and only paid $3.74.  Only $3.74! But was it really worth it to have them hanging in the closet for years only to find out the pants don't flatter my shape? It didn't make me feel good in the least to wear them.

We are getting a good dose of fall weather this week.  I hear the high for Saturday is supposed to be in the 60s.  I am looking forward to cooler weather, but it is a shock to the system when the first chilly weather moves in.  The cool weather is making me think about fall/winter foods.  I am a bit nervous because many of our old cold weather standbys are not going to fit into our new lifestyle without some major "tweaking."   We don't have any particular dietary restrictions - we are not low carbing, non-fatting, gluten-freeing, etc. We have been doing straight calorie counting.  So, I am on the hunt for some new favorites to add to my repertoire. Please share any suggestions or favorite recipes for cool weather.

  1. I have to resist the clearance tag. Just because they are cheap doesn't mean they are WORTH it. Good luck finding clothes that fit and flatter!

  3. Congrats on your loss and your new milestone... that is awesome and a great way to head into another week! As far as the chips go, I FEEL YOU... I would much rather have chips than any type of sweets on any given day!! BUT I'm sure it feels great to fit in all those pants in your closet... and too many of those Sour Cream & Onion chips will make you do the opposite!;)

    1. Thanks - it definitely is motivating. Yes, it was extremely frustrating to have clothes I couldn't wear.

  4. cool weather food = we're talking soups and chilis and stews RIGHT?
With the chilis I always double the beans - and if there is meat it's ground turkey or chicken. Seasonings can trick you into thinking it's GROUND BEEF.
Soups - Half Water Half Broth?
Stews - More Poultry - Less Red meat?

Calorie counting is what got me down where I am - maintaining it has been the running - But, I follow a few blogs that have healthy recipes with approximate calorie counts - If I remember I'll try to email you the links.

  5. I am guilty of buying small clothes too. Of COURSE I will fit into it later... or maybe I will go up a size later... But the price was just too good to pass up.

I think I have cured myself of that, but it still hard to walk away from a good deal.

    1. Yes, when budgets are tight it seems like a good deal...but if the clothes are too tight, not so much.

  6. I try really hard to buy clothes that fit my body today instead of hoiping it will look OK later. I swear, if it\'s on clearance, there's usually a reason, they just don't fit me properly.

    1. I am going to work really hard on only buying clothes that fit and flattering. I don't really enjoy shopping, but I am hoping a new figure will make me like it a bit more.

  7. I think I know your milestone and I say huge congrats! I am working my way to getting there and can't wait! And I am also super guilty of buying clothes too small. I've gotten away from it recently, but it's hard.

  9. Congrats on the loss and the milestone! I am very much looking forward too cooler weather (although we seem to have 9 months of HOT and only 3 of coolish). I buy stuff too small for me all the time. Of course, I don't try on anything at the store - and I should because when I get home and try it on and it doesn't fit makes for one sad Desiree'.
